On August 27, 2021 the NAPOLCOM Regional Office 8 entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Northern Samar Police Provincial Office and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. The MOU is the first of its kind in Eastern Visayas, with the aim to promote speedy investigation, lawful arrest and the prosecution of criminal offenders to maintain peace and order in the province.
Under the MOU, qualified police officers can avail free legal assistance, free legal aid counseling and training programs. Lawyers will also be trained in personal defense, gun use and discipline, with NSPPO’s camp facilities open for the realization of the aforementioned purposes. Further, NSPPO personnel will be protected against harassment charges or cases in connection to the performance of their duties before the courts and other quasi-judicial bodies.
The MOU signing were spearheaded by Atty. Johnson Reyes, NAPOLCOM Regional Director; Atty. Daryl Navarosa-Basiloy of IBP-Northern Samar; and PCOL Arnel J Apud, Northern Samar Provincial Director.
